ELECTION
WATCH
How Injured Workers are making a
difference: Injured workers from across Canada are mobilizing and
organizing for targeted political action during provincial elections. Any
Minister from any province who is responsible for the WCB portfolio is being
assessed for their action or inaction regarding injured workers' issues. If the
Minister is found lacking, a targeted campaign will be launched in their riding
by injured workers across Canada to make WCB an election issue in that
Minister's riding. By swaying the vote of people in that Minister's riding,
that Minister can be UN-elected.
Alternatively, if the Minister has been
found to be taking meaningful action (not just words), to improve the plight of
injured workers, then that minister will NOT be targeted for
un-election.

RELEVANT ELECTION HISTORY:
2007:
Alberta:
Kevin Taft and the Alberta Liberal
Opposition have posted a Labour Relations position statement on their
website that includes the intent to: "Establish an independent public inquiry, including an intensive
audit, into the operations of the WCB." http://www.albertaliberal.com/index.php/alp/policies/C26 If
the Liberals are elected in Alberta, Injured workers across Canada will be
watching this proposed public inquiry as it will be an important and long
overdue step towards addressing fairness in the Alberta workers compensation
system.
|
2006:
Alberta:
UPDATE: Since PC Leader Ed Stelmach dumped the 2
previous Ministers responsible for WCB (see below) the new Minister, Iris
Evans, has done nothing to address fair compensation and the abuse of
injured workers by the Alberta WCB.
New PC leader Ed Stelmach has
dumped from Cabinet the last two Ministers
responsible for WCB, Clint Dunford and Mike Cardinal. Clint Dunford
was criticized for not addressing the longstanding claims by injured workers
before his portfolio was transferred. His replacement, Mike Cardinal was silent
on the issue as well and was also criticized for reporting falsely low
workplace injury rates. http://www.ciws.ca/articles_alberta_workplace_injury_rate.htm
Nova Scotia:
Kerry Morash (PC) Constituency -
Queens Minister of Labour responsible for the Workers' Compensation Act
(except Part II) WAS OUSTED BY Vicki Conrad (NDP) by 55 votes
|
2005:
BC:

Bruce (Liberal) Constituency - Cowichan-Ladysmith Minister of Labour
responsible for Workers' Compensation WAS OUSTED BY Doug Routley
