Alberta Injured Worker on Social Services and Still Fighting WCB Years After Injury

"Many years later I find myself on social services still fighting the Workers Compensation Board."

Letters: June 20

Struck by lightning

Amidst the horrific tragedy this past Father's Day weekend, few understand the difficulties associated with being struck by lightning. I would be one! Being struck on June 11, 1998, while working in Calgary drastically changed my life. Severe lifelong injuries that are not commonplace made it difficult to get the proper treatment and diagnosis. Many years later I find myself on social services still fighting the Workers Compensation Board. I am a member of LSSI, an American based support group for survivors! I wonder why Alberta has no support groups for lightning survivors as we have, I believe, the second highest number of strikes within our region! Something to think about.
